PurrOS firmware updates: what to expect

PurrOS checks for new firmware automatically when your pedals connect, and you choose when to install it. A firmware update changes what is stored on the pedals, so it is worth knowing what to expect.

How do I update the firmware?

When a new firmware version is available, a Firmware update available button appears on your set’s tile on the PurrOS Home screen. Click it and confirm to start the update. Keep the pedals powered and connected until the update dialog shows Update complete. Do not disconnect or power off the pedals during the update.

What does a firmware update reset?

Every firmware update resets calibration, deadzones, response curves and axis inversion to factory defaults. This is by design. The reset happens as soon as the pedals start receiving the new firmware, so an update that is interrupted or fails after that point resets them too. Your saved profile files are not touched. After the update, select your saved profile and press Send to device. If you have no saved profile, recalibrate. A profile restores calibration correctly only on the same unit it was saved from.

What if an update is interrupted?

If an update is interrupted, PurrOS shows Update failed, and your set’s tile then shows Update didn’t complete. Your pedals are safe: they are waiting in update mode. Click Resume firmware update to finish.

If PurrOS says this unit needs to be updated on its own, disconnect any other FATBLACKCAT pedals. Resume firmware update stays greyed out until you do. If the tile shows Product not confirmed, click Get help, which opens our Discord support.

If the update stopped earlier, for example because of a download problem, nothing changed on your pedals and their settings are kept. Start again from Firmware update available.

If an update didn’t finish and the Firmware update available button doesn’t come back, contact us and we’ll get you updated.
