Cause: a known supplier defect on some bass shakers — the factory bonding glue holding the voice coil can fail, letting the coil rattle loose. It isn’t visible at assembly and every shaker passes QC testing before shipping, so a small number fail in the field. (Fun fact from support: since launch there has been zero haptics electronics failure — when something happens, it’s always the shaker itself.)
Fix — 20–30 min DIY, fully supported:
- Remove the plastic cover + carbon plate: 4× M4 corner bolts, 2× M5 in the middle of the carbon plate, plus 2× horizontal M4 above the M5s. Be gentle with the cover — sturdy, but the bottom “legs” can crack if bent far.
- Take the bass shaker out and unscrew the 4 bolts on the shaker (unbolting 3 bolts from the plastic part gives better access).
- Lift the spring plate carefully — the coil usually stays in the shaker body. Place the coil onto the spring plate using the old glue “collar” as the position guide. If the coil’s foil edge is bent, straighten it with fingers.
- Superglue it on both the outside and inside diameter of the coil where the original glue was. Use enough glue, but not so much it runs. Recommended glue: Würth Klebfix 4-in-1 (any good superglue works; this one is less watery).
- Don’t glue the wires to the coil or spring plate (“speaking from experience…”). Leave to bond overnight, reassemble next day.
- On reassembly: pull excess wire gently out through the shaker body (red/black wires pass straight through), and seat the haptics cable in the cable notch on the cover’s side — check the throttle for reference.
Result: 100% functional and it won’t fail again if glued properly. If the coil is damaged (torn foil gaps that glue can’t close), support sends a replacement shaker assembly free — you solder two wires: brown→red, white→black. Cut as little of the black cable as possible so it stays long enough.
